Okay--sorry to beat this into the ground, but could I ask for a 'summary?' I would like a vote from each of you with the time and interest as to your favorite DS from 71, 72, and 73...One from each year. No need for anything else, but I will make sure I have exposure to the favorites (post mine, 9-19-70) in the early 70s era just past my favorite period (68-71...suppose you all know that by now).

Thanks--and again, sorry for the repetition!

don't listen to enough 71 to offer a comment.

11-13-72 unfortunately, no sbd. i've heard a cleaned up copy of bear's aud. recording and it's well worth the hunt!

8-1-73.

I don't see this one mentioned, but I really like 4-21-69. I also put on 11-11-73 when I'm writing an essay. Yes 9-19-70 is really good. There is a quiet part probably around the 13 minute area, where it gets super quiet, and somebody hits a string, and it sounds very dark.. and then you hear like.. equipment acting up, and feedback. It sounds surreal.. like nothing i've heard before. Then of course that Feelin' Groovy Jam as i've seen people refer it it. That's always gold.. especially in the middle of a Dark Star :D

Hey--thanks for the input. I had to respond since I am a newcomer, but your name is well known (you have a reputation). And thanks to everyone else, especially Ian...

A lot of the shows that people have mentioned in this thread are available over at www.gdlive.com , by the way. They seem to have a bit of a bias towards shows with epic Dark Stars, which is a fine bias to have, imo.

I confess that I hate it when people vote for shows they attended, but thirty odd years later, I still gotta go with 9-26-72 Philly (DP36); the last ten minutes are pure picking heaven, and the landing into Morning Dew awesome. 12-06-73, Cleveland--one of the longest and not a note wasted (I notice it's been taken off of archive. Hmmm). 1971? Probably the Fillmore East (4-28? with T.C. guesting) or any of them from the Fall tour.

[outdated gdlive]

For Philly, buy the cd. Great sound and a great show.

Thanks...Damn, wouldn't you know it? I don't have any post 71 DPs except a few that were given to me, and one is from September 72, so I saw your email and thought I was good, BUT it turns out to be DP 11 (27 Sept, Stanley Theatre).

UPDATE: done! Help on the way...

Gotta chime in...

8.21.1972
This is one of the ones that "hooked" me, but my personal feelings aside, it smokes. Seems to combine what I like about other Dark Stars. It really covers some ground.

I enjoyed 12/18/73, the show many argued should have been DP1, a lot.
